We traveled 1900 miles from Ushuaia, Argentina to Concepcion, Chile. The first days of our trip were cold with glaciers soaring straight up, even piercing the fog
as far as we could see. With two retired Chilean Navy officers as our
pilots, we motored slowly through waters even they had never experienced their entire military lives.
When the weather finally let up, it allowed
us to explore, kayak, relax and just observe the brilliance of the
Andes, including those creatures residing in the lowlands.
Nearing the end
of our journey, summer arrived and we hiked Isla Mocha in shorts
and T-shirts, conserving our bottled water. What a trip -- the contrasts
were amazing! Our trip was enhanced by all the lovely, friendly people we met a long the way who didn't hesitate to open
their homes to show us all of the handmade goods they had for sale.
This was another journey for the
record book, and one we won't soon forget!
